NOCSAE Approved Face Mask/Guard Required for Championship Play

Beginning with the 2005 softball season All Junior Olympic Fast Pitch batting helmets shall be equipped with a NOCSAE approved face mask/guard.

This rule was passed at the 2003 ASA Council Meeting with the effective date of January 1, 2005. Some manufacturers have NOCSAE approved face masks in stock and they are distributing them through their retailers. Other manufacturers will have the approved face masks by January 2005.  These face masks allow an individual to attach a face mask to an existing helmet. The kits come with hardware and instruction on the installation of the face mask.

Since this is a mandatory rule in ASA for 2005, I am encouraging you to bring your existing helmets into compliance with the 2005 rule. Should you encounter problems finding face masks at retailers please contact the State Office.
